WATERFALLS
Meenmutty Waterfalls is the largest and
most spectacular waterfalls in Wayanad.
The most attractive feature of this water
falls is that the water drops about 300m
over three stages. It is located 12Kms east
of Meppadi. |

| LAKKIDI
Lakkidi, the gateway
to Wayanad, is situated 700m above mean
sea level, at crest of the Thamarasseri
ghat pass. The gurging streams, luxuriant
vegetation, lofty mountain peaks and bird’s
eye view of the deep valley makes the journey
to this hill station a memorable event. |

| CHAIN
TREE
The origin of chain tree can be traced back
to an alluring local legend. It is said
that a British engineer with the aid of
a tribal guide found the difficult mountain
in to Wayanad. Eagar to take the credit
for the discovery, the engineer killed the
guide. The local population believes that
the soul of the deceased guide used to haunt
travelers until the spirit was chained to
the tree by a priest. Even today a chain
still hangs from a Banyan tree to mark the
spot where the guide was killed. |

| THOLPETTY
WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Tholpetty wild life sanctuary is situated
along the northern ridge of the district
bordering Coorg in Karnataka. It is the
house of incredible flora and fauna and
endangered species. It is one of the largest
protected areas and the best place to see
Asian elephants and Indian bisons. The Sanctuary
covers an area of 345 km. |

| WAYANAD
HERITAGE MUSEUM
This is one of the best heritage museums
in Kerala. It houses rare and precious artifacts
of the ancient tribes of Wayanad. It has
Kerala’s largest collection of Second
century AD artifacts. At the museum you
can see articles like clay sculptures, ancient
hunting equipments like stone thrower, bows
and arrows and other curios. |

| PAZHASSI
RAJA TOMB
The memorial of “The Lion of Kerala”,
who organized the guerrilla ware fare against
the British East India Company, is situated
at Mananthavady. A recreational project,
Pazhassi Park is located adjacent to Pazhassi
Raja Tomb. |

| KANAVU:
“where
vision meets reality”
Kanavu (meaning dreams), the school for
tribal arts was founded by Mr. Baby, fondly
called Kanavu Baby by well wishers. Kanavu
takes its origin from the traditional “gurukul”
educational system in India where the students
stay and do education in the “gurukul”
alias school itself. Kanavu aims at making
the tribes self sufficient. The faculty
at Kanavu provides training for the tribes
in the art of basket weaving, old tribal
dances and other traditional arts. The aim
of kanavu is to preserve the tradition of
the tribes, who are being repeatedly ignored
by the masses and to empower them for a
better future. |

| PHANTOM
ROCK
The name Phantom Rock
originated with the skull head shape of
the rock which is situated closed to Ambalavayal
town. The immediate surrounding of phantom
rock provides excellent photo opportunities
to the tourists. |
