BANASURASAGAR DAM
This is the largest
earth dam in India and the second largest
in Asia. Due to the topography many islands
are formed in the upstream of the dam and
these islands in the background of Banasura
hill provides a picturesque sight to the

LAKE
This natural fresh
water lake surrounded by evergreen forests
and wooden hills is set in a beautiful valley,

CAVES
Edakkal Caves are the most important historic
site in Wayanad. These caves are located
at a height of 100 m on Ambukuty hills.
The new Stone Age pictorial writings on
the walls of these caves are evidence of
the prehistoric civilizations that existed
in these regions. This place has gained
serious attention of archeologists and historians

WATERFALLS
Soochipara, is a three step water fall of
more than 200m. The pool at the foot of
the falls offers the tourists an ideal spot

the water falls makes Soochipara waterfalls

ISLANDS
Kuruva Islands are located on the tributaries
of the eastbound Kabani river. This 950
acre uninhabited island is home to rare
species of birds, herbs and orchids. Kuruva
comprises of three islands and a few submergible

| WAYANAD
WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Wayanad Wild life Sanctuary, formed in 1973
is the biggest adobe of wild animals in
Malabar. Wayanad Wild life Sanctuary is
formed by wild forests covering an area
of 345 sq kms. It is the home of wild animals
like tiger, cheetah, elephants, deer, wild
bear etc. The forest department of Kerala
provides facilities for trekking, site seeing
and elephant rides to the tourists. |

WATERFALLS
Kanthanparra Waterfalls are more noted for
the scenic beauty of the path leading to
it. All though Kanthanpara Waterfalls are
less frequented by the tourists, they have
a beauty of their own, thus making it an
emerging tourist attraction in Wayanad.
Kanthanparra waterfalls are surrounded by
bamboo forests providing a natural aura

| THIRUNELLY
TEMPLE
The temple at Thirnelly is often called
Thekkan Kasi. It is belived that a bath
in the holy water of ‘papanasini’
will wipe off all sins. Thirnelly is situated
under the Brahmagiri hills in the reserve
forests. Thirnelly temple is a marvel of
temple architecture. The shrine is shielded
with 30 granite columns and the ground is
paved with huge square pieces of granite.
The tourists have to pave their way through
the forest to reach the temple, offering
them an adventurous experience. |
